INREC proudly partners with other state agencies and Iowa businesses to make hands-on, real-world resources available to farmers and landowners. One of these continued efforts is a series of Batch and Build Workshops designed to scale edge-of-field water quality practices across the state.
This is the second of a series of workshops to help equip ag retail professionals and others to address Iowa’s nitrogen challenge by scaling edge-of-field practices through batch and build delivery models. In coordination with INREC, the workshop is being hosted by Heartland Co-op and the Agricultural Drainage Management Coalition. There is no registration cost and attendees do not need to have attended Part 1, all are welcome!
CCA CEUs: 5.0 Soil and Water Management.
Part 1 covered how nitrogen moves off fields, why in-field management alone isn’t enough to meet water quality goals, and how ag retailers can engage farmers, identify suitable sites, and use batch and build approaches to efficiently implement bioreactors, saturated buffers and drainage water management practices at scale.
Part 2 will cover how to identify suitable sites through desktop reviews, surveys and design work.
Part 3 will cover what to do if the site is not suitable for edge of field practices.
