Background

History of the Iowa Nutrient Research & Education Council

The Agribusiness Association of Iowa (AAI) formed a Nutrient Management Task Force in September 2013 in a proactive stance to support the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy (NRS). The Task Force was to determine the best approach and involvement for AAI and its membership, and later recommended the formation of the Iowa Nutrient Research & Education Council (INREC) to be led by AAI. This recommendation was later approved by the AAI Board of Directors and INREC began in the fall of 2014 as an AAI affiliate.

INREC is the only organization in Iowa that strategically brings together major farm & commodity organizations, major fertilizer and crop production companies, agricultural retailers and crop advisors in a formal organization to help lead environmental efforts related to agriculture in Iowa.
